Try Ignorance

Never been to Kenya so can't say it happened in my neighbourhood but is the lesson powerful or what?

There was this case in Kenyatta National Hospital Intensive Care ward
where patients always died in the same bed on Sunday morning at 11am,
regardless of their medical condition.

This puzzled the doctors and some even thought that it had something
to do with the supernatural no one could solve the mystery.... as to
Why the death at 11.AM

So a world-wide expert team was constituted and they decided to go
down to the ward to investigate the cause of the incidents. So on the
next Sunday morning few minutes before 11am, all doctors and nurses
nervously wait outside the ward to see for themselves what the
terrible phenomenon was all about.

Some were holding wooden crosses, prayer, books and their
Objects to ward off the evil.....Just when the clock struck
11.....

Guess what happened??

...... Mukhobero Wepukhulu, the part-time
Sunday sweeper entered the ward and unplugged the life support system
so that he could use the socket for the vacuum
cleaner.

If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.

  1. My lecturer told us that the root cause of the Bhopal accident was ignorance. According to him, a cleaner trying to clear a wasp net inadvertently introduced water into the MIC tank, leading to the boiling over of the MIC in the tank. Of course, other mitigative safeguard put in place were not properly maintained (the Five Silent Witnesses). The same lecturer told us that everything he told us in class was a rumour until we get incontrovertible evidence in print. Unfortunately, the Bhopal case is still in court so we don't have incontrovertible evidence but still... I believe the lesson here for all apart from investing in education is to get the essence of education- Always ask 'Why?'. Why is the socket there? What is the implication of my action? Why was I asked to use the crash helmet when I ride on a motorcycle (okada)? Why should I give way to traffic on the left while driving? Why should I put on my safety glasses while welding? Why should I put on ear protection when entering a noisy place? Why should I approve that budget to put safety strips on the stairs? Why should I use my seatbelt? I think the lesson here above all is to always find out the Why behind each instruction, requirement, device
